AWC to host Veteran Network Ally Training
March 5, 2020Yuma, AZ (March 5, 2020) – Arizona Western College’s Department of Diversity, Inclusion, and AccessABILITY is hosting an upcoming Veteran Network Ally Training for the campus and community to attend.
The training will be held on Thursday, March 12, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the East Meeting Room located in the 3C Building of the Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Ave. 8E.
The course is designed to educate members of the community and those in higher education on the needs and concerns of military service members and veterans. The hope is that this training will establish a network of visible allies who can provide support, information, and assistance for service members and veterans as well as foster a community and campus atmosphere that supports their academic freedom and professional, personal, and social successes.
“Every individual who currently works in Veteran Services is a veteran. We understand the struggles and the frustrations that come with returning to school after being experts in our perspective fields. Vet Net Ally is our way of ensuring they receive the support and guidance needed by teaming up with faculty, administration, and other students around campus to let them know they are not alone,” said Rebecca Cordero-Torres, AWC Veterans Services Coordinator/Advisor.
The community is invited to attend this free training. Those that might be interested in participating may include, but are not limited to, people who serve veterans and military service members and their families, healthcare workers, and friends and family of veterans or military service members.
“We are fortunate to have such a strong military and veteran presence in our community and on our campus and it is important to support them any way we can,” said Health and Wellness Coordinator Christine Rouff.
