AWC to hold virtual commencement ceremony
April 21, 2020Yuma, AZ (April 21, 2020) – Students who are graduating with their associate degree this spring are invited to participate in Arizona Western College’s virtual commencement festivities.
A commencement video celebrating this year’s graduates will be streamed on AWC’s Facebook page at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 15. Students and their families can also watch via AWC TV on cable channel 74 in Yuma or at azwestern.edu/live.
“I understand the excitement and anticipation of walking across the stage at our traditional ceremony, and we are working to make this year’s virtual ceremony as special as possible to celebrate the tremendous accomplishments of our students,” said Arizona Western College President Dr. Daniel Corr.
“This is not how we expected to be ending the academic year, but we are adaptable and will honor and celebrate our graduates in our own unique way.”
Students should check their Toro email for an invitation to RSVP for commencement. The deadline to RSVP is Monday, April 27. If students did not receive an email, but are eligible to graduate, they can RSVP at azwestern.edu/graduation under the Commencement Ceremony tab.
Graduates who choose to participate will be sent a graduation packet which will include a cap, tassel, and honor cord. Once the packages are sent out, students will receive an email with more details asking them to take a photo and an optional 5-10 second video. Submission details will be included in the email.
Graduates, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to share congratulatory messages, photos, or videos in the AWC Commencement 2020 Facebook Group. Students can leave a shout out for their classmates, thank a faculty member, or share pictures and videos of their graduation celebrations at home.
AWC will also be celebrating commencement on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. People can use the hashtag #AWCGRAD to join the celebration on social media.
Graduates who would like the in-person experience of an AWC commencement are welcome to participate in the 2021 ceremony next May. An invitation will be sent to eligible graduates at a later time.
