Academic Orientation and Advising (AOA)

 

What is Academic Orientation and Advising?

The Academic Orientation and Advising Program is designed for all incoming students to provide them with the necessary information and resources to help them have a successful start and experience at AWC.  Participants will learn about AWC degrees and certificates, importance of assessment/placement test scores, tips on how to choose classes, ideas on how to build a semester schedule,  how to register for classes, how to use WebAdvisor, an introduction to Blackboard and TORO Webmail, academic support resources and services at AWC, and other important topics necessary for a successful transition into college.

AOA is an exciting and informative opportunity for students taking their first step into college.

Academic Orientation and advising (AOA) is designed for all part-time or full-time student attending any AWC site.

What do I need to do to prepare for the Academic Orientation and Advising?

Students should: (1) complete assessment/placement through AWC Testing Services(2) set-up their AWC NetID Account (for access to WebAdvisor/Blackboard/TORO Webmail); (3) plan to make arrangements for tuition payment and/or apply for financial aid.

Does it matter what session I attend?

The earlier is usually better. As more students register, the more classes fill up and the fewer class selections are available.
