Requesting Accommodations
- Make an appointment with the ARS Coordinator, located on the second floor of the 3C building at 928.344.7674 (V)
- Bring papers showing what type of disability you have 8 - 10 weeks before the first day of class. These papers must be written by a specialist in your disability.
Please check the papers you have about your disability to see if it has the information AccessABILITY Resource Services (ARS) requires. If your documentation is missing some of these components, your receipt of accommodations may be delayed.
- Statement that you have a disability
- Description of your disability
- Who tested you and found that you had a disability?
- What tests did the specialist do?
- What are the results of those tests?
- How does your disability affect your learning? Example: cannot read because words spin on the page
- What academic accommodation(s) are recommended? Example: use books on tape
- Why should this/these accommodation(s) be used in college? Example: The student will hear the textbook and be able to comprehend the information.
- The ARS Coordinator will review the documentation presented to determine eligibility.
- Once eligibility is determined you will need to meet with the ARS Coordinator to choose which accommodations are appropriate for each class.
- We encourage all students to contact instructors before the start of classes to discuss accommodation and success strategies for the semester. This not only gives the instructor time to consider the changes that will be needed to insure access to materials but also breaks the ice and encourages better communication.
- Note: Services can be requested at any time during the semester. However, requesting services well in advance will help ensure resources are available when needed.
