Requesting Accommodations
-
Make an appointment with the ARS Coordinator, located on the second floor of the 3C building at 928.344.7674 (V)
-
Be prepared to speak to the Coordinator about your disability and the barriers you feel you may encounter in the classroom, as well as, accommodations or design modifications needed to ensure equal access.
-
If you have any documentation about your disability that may be useful in identifying barriers, please bring it along.
-
The ARS Coordinator will work with you to determine which design modifications or accommodations are appropriate for each class.
-
We encourage all students to contact instructors before the start of classes to discuss accommodations and success strategies for the semester. This not only gives the instructor time to consider the changes that will be needed to ensure access to materials, but also breaks the ice and encourages better communication.
-
Note: Services can be requested at any time during the semester; however, requesting services well in advance will help ensure resources are available when needed.
Student Responsibilities:
Note Taker Accommodation:
• If you are eligible and need a note taker for a class, give the “Note Taker Request” form provided by the ARS office to the professor.
• Your professor will read the request to the class and then notify ARS and you if someone volunteers.
• Arrange with your professor how you prefer to receive the notes: confidentially from teacher after each class, confidentially from ARS, or directly from the note taker.
• If no one approaches the professor about providing notes, contact ARS and we will work with the instructor to find someone or send someone in from outside of the class.
• If there is a problem with the notes or the note taker is not showing up for class, contact the ARS Coordinator immediately.
Testing Accommodations:
• If you are eligible and need testing accommodations discuss options with your professor.
• You must make arrangements for accommodations before each test.
- Private testing rooms must be reserved in advance with Testing Services
- Readers or Scribes must be scheduled two days in advance with the ARS department.
