Transfer Services

The Transfer Services Office will evaluate transcripts for purposes of awarding credits from other institutions for those students enrolled at Arizona Western College and assist students in transferring to a university.

INCOMING STUDENTS

Arizona Western College accepts higher-education courses that you have already taken toward a degree or certificate if the coursework was completed at any of the following regional accredited institutions:

  • Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools
  • New England Association of Schools and Colleges
  • North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
  • Northwest Association of Schools and of Colleges and Universities
  • Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
  • Western Association of Schools and Colleges

Arizona Western College may also accept other specialized accrediting bodies as listed by the Office of Postsecondary Education.

Acceptable transcripts must bear the official institution seal or bear the official AACRAO agency seal. Transcripts need to be mailed directly from the issuing institution or AACRAO agency to the Transfer Services Office. Students must submit a Request for Evaluation / Re-evaluation of Credits form to the Transfer Services Office for evaluation of credits from other institutions.

EVALUATION BASED ON OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS

  • Students must be enrolled in at least six credit hours for credits to be awarded
  • Have Request for Evaluation of Credits on file
  • Students will be notified.

EVALUATION BASED ON FOREIGN TRANSCRIPTS

Students must be enrolled in at least six credit hours for credits to be awarded

The AWC evaluation of credits may take up to three weeks once the Request for Evaluation / Re-evaluation of Credits form and official transcripts are submitted to the Transfer Services Office. After evaluation of transcripts, the student will receive updated transcripts and a copy of the Request Evaluation form.

CONDITIONS FOR AWARDING OF CREDITS

  • Students must submit coursework descriptions for:
    1. Foreign coursework
    2. Re-evaluation of credits
  • Students with transcripts from institutions awarding quarterly hours will need to makeup the difference of credits equated to Arizona Western College coursework
  • If attended prior to 2007, students may transfer a maximum of 16 credits for non-traditional coursework (i.e., non traditional courses are credits awarded through, CLEP, Credit by Exam, Credit by Portfolio, Military, or any course under a grading system of “CR, P, S”.
  • If attended after Spring 2006, students may transfer a maximum of 24 credits for non-traditional coursework (i.e., non traditional courses are credits awarded through, CLEP, Credit by Exam, Credit by Portfolio, Military, or any course under a grading system of “CR, P, S”.
  • Earned at least a grade of C or its equivalent
  • Courses more than eight years old apply to degree requirements at the discretion of the College. In areas where information changes rapidly, departments may accept, reject, or request revalidation of earlier courses. There is no time limit for general education courses.

TRANSFER STUDENTS

Students need to meet with the Transfer Coordinator at least two semesters prior to applying for graduation or transferring to the any university. The following activities are available to assist students in identifying their major and in making a decision on what university to transfer to.

  • Transfer Fair

  • Table visits from university representative
  • University application and financial aid application workshops (University Representative/Financial Representative
  • University Field Trips
  • (COPES) through Career Development to help student identify major if undecided

Upon identifying the university wanting to transfer to, an Admission Application needs to be submitted ten months prior to attending the university and official Arizona Western College transcripts need to be requested at the Enrollment Services Office to be sent directly to the university.

CRITERIA

  • Students may transfer a maximum of 64 credits to a baccalaureate program.
  • Universities accept college-level (not remedial) courses in which you have earned a grade of “C” or better from regionally accredited institutions.
  • All transferable community college credits are accepted as lower-division credits and do not satisfy upper-division liberal studies.
  • Students must complete 24 credit hours from a college and have a GPA of 2.00 in order to be admitted as a transfer student to the university.
  • University advisors can only advise students, if the student has applied for admissions and official transcripts have been received at the university.

  • Students transferring to an Arizona university should plan in obtaining an Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC) A, B, or S through AWC before transferring to the university.
  • Develop a transfer plan with Transfer Coordinator.

The AGEC is important for students transferring to an Arizona University because it transfers 35 credits of general education courses as a block to the university.

TRANSFER PROBLEMS

Any students experiencing difficulties transferring their course work or degrees to another Arizona Community College or Arizona Universities should contact the AZ Transfer Liasion (ATL) located in the Transfer Services Office, 3c Building (928) 344-7638.
