Student Employment Program At AWC
The Arizona Western College Career Development Office currently administers two student employment programs: College Work-Study and College Payroll.
PURPOSE OF PROGRAM: The work experience received through AWC’s student employment program can enhance a student’s education by providing an enriching job environment while developing usable job skills and beneficial work habits.
The College Work-Study Program provides on or off-campus part-time employment for eligible students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay their educational expenses. The program encourages work related to the student’s course of study and community service work. Students are hired for an entire academic year and must continue to maintain eligibility to participate in the Student Employment Program. The minimum wage salary is provided by the federal government.
CWS Employment Eligibility:
A student is eligible for College Work-Study employment only if all of the following are met:
- The student has financial “need” as determined by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form must be completed annually.
- The student indicates interest in the “Student Employment” section of the AWC Financial Aid Data Sheet and lists qualifications and job experience.
- The student demonstrates an ability to maintain satisfactory academic progress.
- The student is enrolled at AWC for at least 6 credits per semester.
- The student is a citizen of the United States or an eligible non-citizen.
Note: Eligibility Does Not Guarantee A CWS Award Or Employment.
Awarding College Work-Study Employment:
Students with valid results from completing and submitting the FAFSA form need to submit any requested documents (including the AWC Data Sheet PDF 534KB) to the AWC Financial Aid Office. College Work-Study monies may than be awarded to those students based upon financial aid need and the meeting of all CWS eligibility requirements. Students are notified via mail if/when they are awarded College Work-Study monies. These monies are NOT a grant (i.e. Pell Grant) that automatically pays for costs of school or generates checks to students. You must secure an AWC job on or off-campus.
To Claim College Work-Study Employment:
Students who have been awarded College Work-Study monies must have an original signed Social Security card and a picture ID (permanent resident card if non-citizen) and then:
Complete the Job Placement Procedures at the Financial Aid Office:
- Application for Student Employment
- Interview with prospective supervisor
- Complete I-9, W-4 and A-4 paperwork
- Begin working only when supervisor has time cards.
NOTE: Since CWS monies are first applied to school costs as bi-weekly hours are worked and time cards submitted, students will receive paychecks only if/when all school costs are paid.
Community Service & College Work-Study:
Generally, the greatest number of CWS jobs are on campus at AWC’s Main Campus and Centers. However, AWC also has an Off-Campus Community Service program for College Work-Study students with certain agencies in Yuma, San Luis, and Somerton. One popular Community Service program is AMERICA READS which allows CWS students to serve as Reading Tutors for elementary school aged children.
Students eligible for CWS and interested in Off-Campus Community Service employment should contact the Financial Aid Office. The minimum wage salary is provided by the federal government.
Purpose Of The College Payroll Program:
The CPR Program provides on campus part-time employment for students maintaining satisfactory academic progress and enrolled at AWC for at least six credits. Students are hired for an entire academic year and must continue to maintain eligibility to participate in the Student Employment Program. The minimum wage salary is provided by Arizona Western College.
CPR Employment Eligibility:
A student is eligible for College Payroll employment only if all of the following are met:
- The student indicates interest in the “Student Employment” section of the AWC Financial Aid Data Sheet and lists qualifications and job experience.

Students who have been selected for employment are then given a College Payroll award and must take their original signed Social Security card and a picture ID (permanent resident card if non-citizen) to the Financial Aid Office and complete the mandated I-9, W-4 and A-4 paperwork College Payroll students may begin working only when the supervisor has time cards.
NOTE: Since CPR monies are first applied to school costs as bi-weekly hours are worked and time cards submitted, students will receive paychecks only if/when all school costs are paid.
