What type of test is required?
Accuplacer is the testing instrument used to place students in the appropriate classes. The subjects covered are: Reading, Sentence Skills, Arithmetic, Elementary Algebra and College-level Mathematics.
Test Locations
Placement tests are offered at any AWC testing site. Students interested in taking the full placement exam should allow approximately two hours of testing time.
What is the cost for this test?
The first placement test is provided at no cost to the student. Students who are not satisfied with their test results may re-test again after a 24-hour waiting period. Re-tests are assessed a $20.00 fee.
Students who are still not satisfied with the re-test scores may, after a 90-day waiting period, take the placement test again. There is no charge for the third examination.
How are scores computed?
Once the assessment is completed, students receive a printed report with the scores and course placement. Students then visit a counselor who will help them interpret the scores and select their courses.
All testers are required to present a valid and current picture identification card before testing.
Acceptable forms of ID
Students will need a valid for of identification in order to take the desired test.
Students with unacceptable identification will not be able to test.

Can I fail this test?
The Accuplacer placement test is not designed to establish a passing or failing score. This test assesses the student's proficiency skill in the areas of reading, English and math. Results are primarily used for placing students in the appropriate courses. Test data may be also be used for research purposes with special precaution taken to ensure student privacy and maintain a confidential student identity.
