SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Besides being admitted to Arizona Western College, you may qualify for one or more of the following services and programs:

College Express High School Program

If you are a high school student interested in taking college courses, you will want to ask your high school counselor about the College Express program which helps you get a head start on you college education.

Tech Prep

Tech Prep assists students in gaining the technical preparation they need to succeed by streamlining career programs from high school through college. When students enroll in a Tech Prep career program in high school, they can start earning credit towards their college degree even before they graduate. Tech Prep also provides opportunities to help smooth the transition from high school to college, such as student orientation and summer career exploration academies. Talent Search/Upward Bound

Talent Search is a federally funded program to help students graduate from high school and continue on to college or other training opportunities. if you are a first generation, of low income status, attending one of the local junior high or high schools, or are out of school and want an opportunity to get back, call (928) 344-7754, to see if you qualify for this program.

Upward Bound is a federally funded program to help students graduate from high school and complete a four year college degree. If you are first generation, of low income, attending a local high school, and have average or above average grades, call (928) 317-6116, to see if you meet other criteria and quality for this program.

Student Support Services

Student Support Services program is designed to help low-income, first generation, or disabled students who have an academic need to graduate and transfer from AWC. The Student Support Services staff works closely with students to determine individual area of need and to develop a strategy to meet that need. Eligibility for the program is determined by guidelines set by the Department of Education. Come to the Student Services Building or call (928) 344-7761 for more information.

Single Parent/Displaced Homemakers

This program provides assistance to help single parents and displaced homemakers pursue a college education. The coordinator provides help to qualified AWC students with transportation, child care, and other needs to ensure college success. This program operates on a first-come, first-serve basis. Call (928) 344-7623 to make an appointment.

Students in Athletic Programs

If you have been accepted into a varsity sport, be sure to make an appointment with the athletic academic advisor (928) 317-6112 who will help you with choice of major and scheduling your classes are practice and game time commitments. For additional information visit Athletics.

Veterans Services

Arizona Western College is fully approved for the training of students under several government educational programs for veterans and eligible dependents of deceased or disabled veterans. Eligible students, as well as those who wish to determine their eligibility, should apply at Arizona Western College, Veteran Services Office, P.O. Box 929, Yuma, AZ 85366-0929 or call (928) 344-7622.
