What is Explore AWC?
Explore AWC is a half-day program designed to prepare new incoming AWC students for their first semester. This fun, interactive program will provide new students with the information and resources to have a successful start to their educational career. Program highlights include informational presentations from key departments, intentional campus tours to locate your classes, and a chance to get your questions answered in a small-group setting.
Who should attend Explore AWC?
Explore AWC is designed for any NEW, part-time or full-time, AWC students who are entering AWC for the first time or returning after a long absence.
Am I required to attend Explore AWC?
Although Explore AWC is not a mandatory program, it is highly recommended that all new students participate in order to help ensure a successful first semester at AWC.
How do I sign up to attend Explore AWC?
Simply fill out our Online Reservation Form and indicate which date you would like to attend. You will be contacted by a staff member to confirm your assigned Explore AWC orientation date.
Does it matter which session I attend?
For most students attending classes at our main Yuma campus and coming to Explore AWC on your own, you will attend any of our general sessions offered throughout the summer. These sessions are all identical and will offer the same program and information.
If you will be attending classes at one of our South County locations (San Luis or Somerton), you should attend a session held at our San Luis Learning Center. If you will be attending classes at one of our La Paz county locations (Parker or Quartzsite), you should attend the session held at our Parker Learning Center.
What do I need to do BEFORE I attend Explore AWC?
Explore AWC is the second step in the New Student Orientation process. Students should first attend a Discover AWC session and register for fall classes before attending Explore AWC. Students will not receive advising, registration, or other enrollment assistance during Explore AWC. It is assumed students have already registered for classes prior to their Explore AWC session.
Prior to attending Explore AWC New Student Orientation, students should already have their student email account and WebAdvisor account set up. If you need to activate these accounts, please visit accounts.azwestern.edu and follow the steps provided.
What do I need to bring with me to Explore AWC?
You are not required to bring anything in particular, however, the following things may be helpful during the Explore AWC program:
Can I bring someone with me to Explore AWC?
You are welcome to bring 1-2 guests such as a parent, guardian, or other support person.
Is there a cost to attend Explore AWC orientation?
No. The Explore AWC orientation program is free of charge.
What if I need special accommodations during Explore AWC?
