Ring in 2010 with the best basketball action in the Desert Southwest! Eight talented basketball teams from four different states will take over 'The House' on the Arizona Western College campus just after the first weekend of 2010 for the
5th Annual Wells Fargo Classic
presented by Wells Fargo Bank and Matador Athletics!
In 2009, the Wells Fargo Classic featured a competitive 4-team men's field!
2 of them went to the playoffs, both went to the Region Finals,
and one of them became a Region champion!
And in 2009, the women's side of the Wells Fargo Classic field featured 4 teams that ALL went to the playoffs, 2 reached their Region Finals, and one went on to the NJCAA Tournament!
This season, we're bringing you another strong eight-team tournament field, with four women's and four men's teams taking the floor each day.
Patrick Cunningham's '09 Region I Finalists, the AWC Lady Matadors, head a strong women's field that includes perennial Region III powerhouse Monroe College from New York, defending Jayhawk West Champion Barton County Community College from Kansas, and AWC's main archrivals from Prescott, the Yavapai Lady Roughriders!
Meanwhile, Kelly Green's Matador Men's Basketball team, fresh off their 4th Region I title in the last 5 years, will face tough competition from a men's field that includes: Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, coached by former AWC Assistant Dustin Grover and who went to the NJCAA Tournament 2 years ago; perennial Region V contender Frank Phillips College from Texas; and the always tough Yavapai Roughriders from northern Arizona!
