YUMA, AZ – Freshman goalkeeper Breanna Silveira (Victorville, CA) from the Lady Matador Soccer team was tabbed as the ACCAC Goalkeeper of the Week for her stellar performance in last week’s 3-0 shutout of Pima.
“It’s a great honor for Breanna so early in her college career to be recognized as the goalkeeper of the week,” said AWC head coach Kenny Dale. “Now, she must go out and duplicate that performance every week.”
Breanna Silveira played all 90 minutes and recorded 19 saves on all 19 shots she faced in the Lady Matadors regular season opener against the Pima Aztecs. Silveira will face a few more tough tests this week, as the Lady Mats prepare to travel to Mesa on Thursday; before coming home to face Glendale and Imperial Valley next Monday and Wednesday.
“We are really excited for Breanna,” said AWC assistant coach Sarah Ramirez. “She has really worked hard in practice and it just goes to show you that if you practice hard, it will carry over to the games.”
The Lady Matadors will be in action this Thursday in Mesa to take on the Lady Thunderbirds at 7pm. We will have updates for you all night long on both our athletics Facebook and Twitter pages. And don’t forget, the Lady Matador and Matador soccer teams return home on Monday for a pair of Labor Day games against Glendale Community College. The men will start at 4:30pm, followed by the women at 7pm.
