YUMA, AZ – Former Arizona Western College Lady Matador forward Kristian Sanford (Yuma, AZ) announced this week, that she has signed her letter of intent to continue her soccer career at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. With this announcement, Sanford joins Carolyn Sosa from the Lady Matador soccer program to sign on with a 4-year school after the teams’ inception last season.
“We are excited Kristian has been provided the opportunity to add to her soccer resume,” said assistant coach Sarah Ramirez. “She will definitely be a threat to her opponents up top as she was while playing for us. We know she will be a great addition to their team. We look forward to hearing good things in the future from Kristian and Oklahoma Wesleyan.”
Sanford finished her sophomore campaign appearing in 16 games with the Lady Matadors, while posting four goals and two assists in those matches. She accumulated 10 points offensively for a Lady Matador squad that finished with a record of 15-5-1 in their inaugural campaign.
“We are very excited about the opportunity Kristian has to continue her career,” said AWC head coach Kenny Dale. “She was one of only two sophomores on our team and that really helped a team with so many players new to college soccer. She had a great season for us as a forward and I am sure she will continue that at Oklahoma Wesleyan University.”
AWC will kick-off their 2014 season on August 16th in San Diego against former Lady Matador Carolyn Sosa and her new teammates at San Diego Christian College; with the scrimmage set for 2pm. The Lady Matadors will kick-off their regular season on August 22nd at home against Pima with the match scheduled to begin at 7pm.
