Carolyn Sosa Signs With San Diego Christian College
Derek Diesner
Jun. 19th, 2014

YUMA, AZ – Former Arizona Western College Lady Matador goaltender Carolyn Sosa (San Luis, AZ) announced this week, that she has signed her letter of intent to continue her soccer career at San Diego Christian College at the NAIA level.

“We are very excited Carolyn was awarded a scholarship to play soccer at the next level,” said AWC assistant coach Sarah Ramirez. “She was a model student-athlete for the three years she was here at AWC. We are sad to see her leave as she could have played one more year for us, but it was in her best interest that she move on to a university where she can further her education and play for 3 more years. We look forward to hearing great things about Carolyn from her new soccer home.”

Sosa spent her first two years at Arizona Western College under the direction of head coach Jason Smith on the Lady Matadors volleyball team. Then, when the idea was discussed and brought to life of a women’s soccer team, Carolyn Sosa decided to go after her true love and passion with the game of soccer.

“I came to AWC because it was close to home and I wasn’t ready to leave,” said Sosa. “Jason (Smith) offered me the opportunity to stay close to home and play volleyball and I took it. After two seasons of volleyball, I had the opportunity to transfer and play volleyball in Missouri, but I went to the AWC soccer tryouts and was offered a scholarship and I took it. I always enjoyed soccer more than volleyball and jumped at the opportunity offered to me by head coach Kenny Dale. Following the soccer path has given me a better opportunity at the 4-year level.”

Carolyn Sosa finished her 2013 campaign between the pipes for the Lady Matadors with a record of 11-3-1 in her 17 games played; 16 of which she started. Sosa recorded five shutouts last season and had a goals against average of 1.08 and a save percentage of .835.

AWC will kick-off their 2014 campaign on August 16th in San Diego against Carolyn Sosa and her new teammates at San Diego Christian College; with the scrimmage set for 2pm. The Lady Matadors will kick-off their regular season on August 22nd at home to Pima with the match scheduled to begin at 7pm. Stay tuned to Matador Athletics for more news on the team as it becomes available including game times and dates.
