Derek Diesner
Apr. 10th, 2014

YUMA, AZ – Sophomore point guard Anthony Alston of the Matador men’s basketball team was named to the NJCAA Division 1 All-American Honorable Mention Team, which was announced on Thursday morning.

With this award, Alston joins the likes of former Matador Marvin Whitt who had the same honor last season.

“Anthony has worked extremely hard during his two years at Arizona Western College to achieve this award,” said AWC head coach Charles Harral. “He will continue to do great things at a 4 year University next year, and my staff and I are very proud of him.”

Alston finished his final season at Arizona Western by averaging 13.4 points a game, which ranked third on the team. He also chipped in with a team best 4.9 assists per game and a team best 1.4 steals a game. Alston averaged 4.1 rebounds per game.

Alston is currently deciding where he will attend school and play basketball next season. Stay tuned to Matador Athletics for all news on signings, schedule releases and news on incoming recruits by visiting our webpage, Facebook page, or by following our Twitter handle @AWCMatadors.
