YUMA, AZ – The Arizona Western College Matadors defeated Pima in their first home game since the end of November by a final of 60-55 in overtime at “The House” Saturday evening.
With the victory, the AWC Matadors improve to 11-7 overall and remain 7-3 in ACCAC play, while Pima drops to 10-8 overall and 6-4 in ACCAC play.
The Matadors dominated the first half of the game against Pima Saturday, shooting 50% from the floor; compared to just 22% for the Aztecs.
In the second half though, the Aztecs shot a bit better from the floor and were able to get to the foul line as they outscored the Matadors by eight points and forced overtime.
Arizona Western scored six points in overtime, while Pima was an atrocious 0-for-10 from the floor and scored just one point on a free-throw during the extra five minutes of play.
The Matadors were once again led by forward Samantha Wallace with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Wallace missed the Matadors last game on Wednesday at Mesa.
The Matadors are back at it inside of “The House” this Wednesday night against fellow ACCAC member Tohono O’odham. The women tip off at 5:30pm and the game can be heard and seen live on 560 KBLU-AM and AWC-TV with our pre-game show beginning at 5:20pm.
