Blake Whiteley Signs With Texas
Derek Diesner
Jan. 9th, 2014

YUMA, AZ – Arizona Western College Head Football Coach Tom Minnick announced Wednesday that former Matador tight end Blake Whiteley (British Columbia, Canada), has signed his letter of intent to play for first year head coach Charlie Strong at the University of Texas.

“It’s another great day for the Matador football program,” said AWC Head Coach Tom Minnick. “Anytime you have one of your players signing with a division one school, it’s a big deal. Factor in that Blake is going to one of the most respected football programs in the country at the University of Texas, and it makes it that much sweeter.”

Whiteley finished his freshman season at Arizona Western College with eight receptions for 67 yards and two touchdowns. His best game came in the Fisher Automotive El Toro Bowl where he secured four catches for 58 yards; leading the team in reception yardage for the game.

The Matadors season ended on December 7th following a loss to New Mexico Military Institute in the Fisher Automotive El Toro Bowl. AWC kicks off their 2014 campaign back at home against NMMI at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday August 23rd. Kickoff time is TBD.
