YUMA, AZ – Arizona Western College Matador Julio Castillo has been named to the All-American Second Team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Castillo, a sophomore at AWC played in 21 games this past season, tallying four goals and five assists.
Castillo has had a busy postseason, being named to the All-Region 1 Team, and also being recognized by Arizona Western College and its coaches as the AWC Men’s Student-Athlete of the Month back in November.
The Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) also placed three men on the first team NSCAA All-American list, as well as one woman on each the first and second team. Castillo was the lone representative for AWC.
The Matadors will have big shoes to fill this offseason as they will look to add depth after losing 15 sophomores from this past season’s squad which includes Julio Castillo.
The AWC men will continue off-season workouts in the new year, followed by their spring exhibition season sometime in March. The Matadors won’t return to regular season action until mid to late August to kick off their 2014 campaign.
