YUMA, AZ – For the second time this season and in as many weeks, sophomore forward/center Samantha Wallace from the Matador women’s basketball team has won the ACCAC Division-One Player of the Week award.
“Samantha had another good week for us.” said head coach Patrick Cunningham. “We are still focused on our team goals, but again this is a nice award for Samantha and for our team as a whole.”
Wallace led the Matadors by averaging double-doubles in two victories against ACCAC opponents in Glendale and Eastern Arizona. She averaged 16 points and 18 rebounds per game in two conference victories.
Last Wednesday, the Matadors defeated Glendale on the road by a final of 66-52. AWC then returned home Saturday to face their cross-state rivals in Eastern Arizona, a game in which the Matadors defeated the Lady Gila Monsters 66-50 to remain undefeated at 4-0 in conference play.
Wallace and her teammates will have yet another busy week as they have a clash with Central Arizona on Tuesday, before hosting the Wells Fargo Classic on Friday and Saturday. First up for the Mats is another road test against perennial power house Central Arizona Tuesday at 5:30pm in Coolidge. AWC will the return home Friday and Saturday to host Anoka Ramsey from Minnesota and Carl Albert State out of Oklahoma in this year’s Wells Fargo Classic.
