Jason Smith Wins District “C” Coach of the Year Award
Derek Diesner
Nov. 21st, 2013

CASPER, WY – On the eve of his team’s opening game in the NJCAA National Championship, Lady Matadors head coach Jason Smith was named the District C Head Coach of the Year at an awards banquet last (Wednesday) night held in Casper, Wyoming; the site of the Division 1 National Championship.

Smith has led his Lady Matador squad to an overall mark at 19-4 this season and a 13-3 record in conference play. This season, Arizona Western has won the ACCAC championship, the Region 1 Championship and the District C Championship. All that’s left for this Lady Matador team to accomplish is a National Championship.

“I am very happy to win this award, but it truly says more about the team effort that everyone has committed to all season,” said head coach Jason Smith.

Smith went on to add, “That is also why I am confident in my team heading into today’s action still fully aware of the level of competition that we will face.”

The Lady Matadors begin their quest for a National Championship this (Thursday) afternoon as they draw the North Idaho Cardinals in their opening round match. AWC comes in as the eighth seed, while North Idaho drew the ninth seed. Today’s game will begin at 1pm and can be seen live on NJCAA.TV by visiting: http://www.njcaatv.com/volleyballchamp/.
