Nov. 15th, 2013

Coeur d’Alene, ID – The Arizona Western College Matadors kept pace with Salish Kootenai early and opened the flood gates late in the first half on their way to a 114-97 victory over the Bison.

With the victory, the AWC Matadors improve to 5-2 overall and remain a perfect 2-0 in ACCAC play, while Salish Kootenai drops to 3-3 overall.

It was a faced paced high scoring affair Friday night when the AWC Matadors met the Salish Kootenai Bison in the opening game during the North Idaho Classic in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The other two teams in the classic are the hosts North Idaho College and Central Wyoming.

The Matadors used their size to their advantage as they pounded the rock down low to take a 23 point lead into halftime. The Matadors were outscored by six in the second half but still managed a 17 point victory.

The Matadors were led offensively by Temjae Singleton. Singleton totaled 21 points and six rebounds on 8-of-10 shooting from the field.

Anthony Alston finished with 18 points, while Ali Faruqbey and E.J. Twyman each finished with 14 points apiece.

Salish Kootenai was led offensively by their big man DJ Fish, who finished with 36 points on 11-for-20 shooting, with five rebounds and two assists.

The Matadors are back at it tomorrow in day two of the North Idaho Classic on Saturday against the hosts, North Idaho College with the opening tip scheduled for 6pm Arizona time. You can catch the game tomorrow; audio only by visiting the Matador Athletics website. We will also have live updates all night on our Facebook and Twitter pages throughout the game.
