Nov. 7th, 2013

YUMA, AZ – The Arizona Western College Matadors basketball team trailed early but earned a 73-63 victory over the Snow College Badgers on Thursday night at “The House” in Yuma.

With the victory, the AWC Matadors improve to 2-1 overall, while Snow College drops to 1-2.

The first half was controlled by the Snow Badgers as they took a 31-26 lead into halftime. Snow shot close to 42% from the floor, while AWC shot just 23.3% from the floor in the first half.

In the second half, the Matadors came out roaring as they outscored Snow by 15 enroute to a ten point victory.

“It was a grinder,” said Matadors head coach Charles Harral. “We came out with the win and now it’s on to tomorrow and Eastern Utah.”

The Matadors were led offensively by Ron Lee who had 20 points on 6-of-15 shooting with three rebounds. Darrious Hamilton also chipped in with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting with three rebounds.

Anthony Alston finished his night with 17 points, 12 of which came from the free throw line.

The Matadors continue play in the Desert Classic ’13 presented by Chicago Title Agency tomorrow evening as they host the Eastern Utah Golden Eagles. Tip time is scheduled for 7:30pm and tickets are just $5 for the entire day; that’s four games for the price of one.
