YUMA, AZ – The Top 20 National Poll for women’s volleyball was released Wednesday morning by the NJCAA and Arizona Western College remained ranked 12th in the nation following a Wednesday victory over Scottsdale and a Friday victory at Yavapai. AWC’s record currently sits at 16-3 overall and 12-2 in ACCAC play.
AWC earned 27 points in the poll this week, three points less than the Paris Junior College which is ranked just above the Matadors at 11th in the most recent volleyball poll. San Jacinto College-Central is ranked just below the Lady Matadors at 13th with three points less than AWC.
Two teams dropped from the polls this week, and that was Panola College who was previously ranked 14th in the nation and Laredo Community College who was previously ranked 17th. The two new teams into the poll are Missouri State University-West Plains and Trinity Valley Community College. Missouri State University-West Plains received votes in last week’s poll, while Trinity Valley was not even ranked.
This week five schools are receiving votes in the poll and they are Panola College, Florida State College at Jacksonville, Hutchinson Community College, Indian River State College, and Laredo Community College.
Up next for the Lady Matadors is a home match later this (Wednesday) evening against the Central Arizona Vaqueras. The match is scheduled to begin at 7pm inside of “The House” on the campus of Arizona Western College. Tonight’s game is the final regular season home match for the Lady Matadors before beginning postseason play next week. It will also be sophomore recognition night! The team currently has six sophomores and its head coach Jason Smith’s plan to start all six sophomores tonight against Central Arizona. Tonight’s game can be heard live on 560 KBLU-AM and seen live on AWC-TV.
