YUMA, AZ – Elisa Espino scored both goals for the Arizona Western College Lady Matadors as they ended in a draw with Chandler-Gilbert with a final score of 2-2 Thursday evening at the AWC Soccer Field.
With the tie, AWC improves to 11-4-1 overall, while Chandler-Gilbert moves to 10-4-1 overall and 10-3 in ACCAC play.
Chandler-Gilbert scored the lone goal of the first half just seven minutes in off of the foot of Brena Jarvis on a corner kick.
After halftime, the Lady Matadors would respond with a pair of goals from Elisa Espino.
Sandwiched in between her goals in the second half was a goal by Destini Soares for the Coyotes.
In the end, the game needed more than 90 minutes as the teams played two 10 minute overtime periods with neither side able to score; ending the match in a draw.
“I liked our fight tonight. We challenged well and created good opportunities. Overall, I am pleased with our effort,” said head coach Kenny Dale.
The AWC women will next be in action on Saturday at 12 noon when the Lady Matadors welcome the Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes to town. The women will get things started at 12 noon followed by the men at 2:30pm.
