Sep. 21st, 2013

YUMA, ARIZONA – The #12 Arizona Western College Matadors had their way with the Everett Red Raiders Saturday night to the tune of 76-6 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Yuma.

With the victory, the 12th ranked AWC Matadors improve to 4-1 overall and remain 3-1 in Western States Football League play. With the loss, the Everett Red Raiders drop to 2-1 on the season.

The game was close for a quarter as AWC led 13-6 after the first, but in the second quarter the Matadors put their foot down on the gas pedal and never let up. AWC outscored Everett 63-0 in the final three quarters, while dominating on both sides of the ball for their most lopsided victory of the season.

The Matadors tallied 11 touchdowns on the evening, with five coming through the air, four coming on the ground and the other two on a punt return and an interception.

Offensively the Matadors ran 72 plays and accumulated 568 yards on the evening compared to 60 plays for the Red Raiders for only 171 yards.

Everett’s lone score came in the final minutes of the first quarter on a five yard touchdown run by their tailback DeAndre Hardy.

Up next for the Matadors is a two game roadtrip that gets started in Mesa as AWC will battle with the Thunderbirds who are currently tied with the Matadors for first place in the WSFL at 4-1. Kickoff is slated for 7pm on Saturday, September 28 and the game can be heard on 560 KBLU-AM, the flagship home for Arizona Western College athletics.
