Matadors Are Moving On Up

Sep. 18th, 2013

YUMA, ARIZONA – The Top 20 National Poll for men’s soccer was released Wednesday morning by the NJCAA and Arizona Western College’s men’s squad moved up four spots to 16 overall.

The AWC men remained in the top 20 for the fourth straight week and are reeling after a nice 7-2 victory yesterday (Tuesday) evening against Scottsdale Community College.

In this latest release of the poll, only two new teams were added; those being Coffeyville and Waubonsee. Pima Community College was one of two teams dropped from the polls completely, after being ranked 11 in last week’s poll.

Fellow ACCAC members that are currently in the top 20 include Yavapai (6-0-1) ranked fifth and Phoenix College (7-0-0) ranked eighth.

Following last night’s victory, the Matadors hit the road for three matches beginning Thursday at 6pm in Prescott against the fifth ranked Yavapai RoughRiders. AWC will return home to Yuma for a women’s and men’s doubleheader on Saturday September 28, when the Matadors welcome the Phoenix College Bears to town. The women will get things started at 4:30pm followed by the men at 7pm.
