YUMA, ARIZONA – The Arizona Western College Matadors men’s soccer team excelled on both ends of the field on their way to a 5-1 victory over Paradise Valley Thursday evening in Yuma.
With the victory, the Matadors improve to 4-2-1 overall and 4-2-1 in ACCAC play. With the loss, Paradise Valley falls to 1-6 overall and 1-6 in ACCAC play.
AWC got on the board early and often Thursday with three first half strikes against Paradise Valley. Arturo Valle scored the first of his two goals on the evening early in the first half on a free kick. Following Valle’s goal, the Matadors were back at it with a goal from Jordan Evans. Cedric Keon Jones capped off the scoring for AWC in the first half with just three minutes remaining before halftime.
In the second half, Valle picked up where he left off in the first half scoring his second goal of the evening.
With 18:14 remaining in the match, Paradise Valley got on the board with a goal from Daniel Martinez.
“It was a good game and possession of the ball was key and we did that tonight,” said head coach Kenny Dale. “I wasn’t pleased with that late goal but you could tell some of the guys were getting tired, but that is not an excuse.”
Cisco Ramirez would tally one more goal for AWC with under two minutes remaining to lock in the 5-1 victory for the Matadors.
Up next for the Matadors is a quick road game in Tucson Saturday against Pima Community College before returning home for a make-up match against Scottsdale on Tuesday here at AWC. Saturday’s match at Pima is slated to begin at 2:30pm, while Tuesday’s make-up against Scottsdale will start at 6pm.
