YUMA, ARIZONA – Paradise Valley came into Yuma as close to spotless as can be and left with questions as they slipped past Arizona Western College by a final of 3-2 in overtime on Thursday evening.
With the loss, the Lady Matadors drop to 5-2 overall. With the victory, Paradise Valley College improves to a perfect 6-0 overall and remains 5-0 in ACCAC play.
The first half was all Paradise Valley as they struck for a pair of goals near the mid-mark of the half.
It was a tale of two half’s, as AWC outscored Paradise Valley 2-0 in the second half. Elisa Espino got the Lady Matadors on the board just three minutes into the second half, as she was assisted by Ariana Carmona. The Lady Mats were back at it with their second goal just four minutes later off of the foot of Greta Espinoza.
“I was really impressed with how we fought back after being down 0-2 to the number one team in the nation,” said head coach Kenny Dale.
After a scoreless first overtime, Paradise Valley controlled the ball midway through the second overtime when the whistles blew to set-up a penalty kick for Nicole Nse. She made it count, as she scored her second goal of the night to cap off the victory and keep the undefeated season alive for Paradise Valley.
Up next for the Lady Matadors is a two game roadtrip beginning this Saturday at Tucson as AWC takes on Pima Community College. The match is scheduled for 12 noon.
