YUMA, ARIZONA – The top 20 rankings for women’s volleyball were released Wednesday morning by the NJCAA and Arizona Western College moved up seven spots to 10 in the nation.
AWC earned 33 points in the poll this week, just three points less than the College of Central Florida which is ranked just above the Matadors at 9 in the most recent volleyball rankings.
Today’s poll was the first of the season since the preseason poll was released back on August 12. Seven teams dropped out of the rankings completely, including Missouri State-West Plains who were ranked eighth in the preseason poll.
Panola College gained the most ground, as they were unranked to start the season and after their 11-3 start have been rewarded with the number three ranking in today’s poll.
Snow College and New Mexico Military Institute have both been added to the most recent polls after being unranked to start the year. Snow comes in at 13, while New Mexico Military Institute comes in at 18.
Up next for the Lady Matadors is a home match later this evening against Yavapai College (11-2, 3-0 ACCAC). Tonight’s match is sure to be a good one as the RoughRiders come in to tonight’s play sitting in second place, right behind Arizona Western College in ACCAC play. The match is scheduled to begin at 7pm tonight at “The House” on the campus of AWC.
