YUMA, ARIZONA – The Arizona Western College Lady Matadors won their first game in program history Thursday evening by shutting out the Glendale Lady Gauchos 4-0 in Yuma.
With the victory, the Lady Matadors improve to 1-1 overall. With the loss, Glendale Community College drops to 1-2 overall.
AWC got on the board often Thursday against a roughed up Glendale Lady Gauchos squad. The Lady Matadors got on the board first by a solid goal from Kristian Sanford just ten minutes into the match.
Sara Rodriguez then responded with AWC’s second goal of the game just 17 minutes later. A quick four minutes following Rodriguez’s goal, she then assisted on a Samantha Alavardo goal at the 31 minute mark.
With AWC leading at the half by a score of three to nil, head coach Kenny Dale made his squad keep their foot on the gas pedal.
His offense responded with a fourth and final goal at the 66 minute mark by Sara Rodriguez, her second goal of the night.
“It’s great to be the winningest coach in AWC Women’s Soccer history,” said head coach Kenny Dale following the win.
Up next for the Lady Matadors is a four game roadtrip beginning this Saturday at Mesa. The match is scheduled for 4:30pm.
