The first set was up for grabs early. After trailing 0-2, AWC rallied and scored their first point of the season. It was a give and take from there on out with the Lady Matadors holding on for a 25-21 win.
The second set was a completely different story. The Lady Matadors rattled off ten plus points to take a large advantage halfway through the set on their way to a 25-11 victory.
The third and final set brought the fans to their feet at “The House.” AWC was tested in the third set by Chandler-Gilbert with neither team scoring more than three consecutive points.
“We lost a lot of attention to detail in game three, but to come out with a victory that’s all we needed,” said AWC head coach Jason Smith.
The Lady Matadors were led by their heavy smashers on the frontline of Amber Graham and Abbie Noland. Assisting the dynamic duo for the bulk of play Wednesday was Kylee Chun.
Up next for the Lady Matadors is a quick roadtrip to Glendale, Arizona to face the Lady Gauchos before returning home next Wednesday to host Eastern Arizona. Friday’s match against the Glendale Gauchos in Glendale, Arizona is scheduled for 7pm.
