Diesner Hired As AWC’s SID
Derek Diesner
Aug. 28th, 2013

YUMA, AZ- Arizona Western College Athletics Director Jerry Smith has announced that Derek Diesner has been hired as the new sports information director and the Matador Athletic Association coordinator.
Diesner replaces Jim Howell, who recently accepted a position with Phoenix College’s Athletics Department.
Prior to joining AWC, Diesner (pronounced DEEZ-ner) spent time with the Charleston RiverDogs, a Class-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, where he served as the broadcasting and media relations assistant.
Diesner brings a wide range of experience from both the sports and media world as he spent time with a couple of radio stations and two more minor league baseball franchises.
At Arizona Western College, Diesner is the “Voice of Matador Athletics,” which began this past Saturday when the Matador football team hosted Pima College. He will also assist the media in all of their endeavors while maintaining statistical and historical information on all eight intercollegiate sports and while coordinating activities within the Matador Athletic Association.
