Fisher Automotive becomes new title sponsor for 2013 blockbuster event this December

Yuma, Arizona – June 5, 2013 – Arizona Western College, the Matador Athletic Association and the Caballeros de Yuma are proud to announce that they have begun preparations for the 2013 El Toro Bowl. The partnership has announced that the name of the event this year will be the Fisher Automotive El Toro Bowl as they welcome in a new title sponsor. It will be the third year since the three entities partnered together to bring a college football bowl game back to Yuma in spectacular fashion in December of 2011 after a 37-year absence. The announcement was made this afternoon at a press conference at the brand-new showroom at Fisher Chevrolet, one of three different dealerships that are part of the Fisher Automotive family in Yuma.

In the two years since the event’s triumphant return, the Fisher Automotive El Toro Bowl has brought over 9000 people through the turnstiles at Veterans Memorial Stadium, hosted the 2011 national championship football game for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), and featured the third-best JC bowl matchup in the country last season. In addition, the various broadcasts of the game (radio, television, internet audio and internet video) were also taken in by over 30,000 viewers/listeners in 2011 & 2012 combined. The games themselves have been the culmination of a week of El Toro Bowl events that included such attractions as the first-ever AWC Hall of Fame Banquet, El Toro Bowl Pre-Bowl Banquet, El Toro Bowl Ladies’ Luncheon, El Toro Bowl VIP Reception and two community service events that included both participating football teams making presentations to schools in southern Yuma County. The overwhelming success of the first two years of the game and the events leading up to it have set a high bar for event organizers to follow, and they already have plenty of things to indicate that they will meet and exceed those expectations again this year. First, Fisher Automotive has stepped up their presence to become the official title sponsor of the El Toro Bowl for 2013. “Once the process began between Fisher and us, it moved very quickly, and there were nothing but positives about it,” said Caballeros de Yuma Bowl Committee Co-Chairman Dennis Booth. “They listened intently to what we had to say from the first time that we set up the meeting, and had nothing but great things to say about what they’d seen and experienced from the 2011 & 2012 bowl games. There’s just so much excitement from our people about the fact that Joe & Annie (Fisher) and everyone at Fisher Automotive have joined up with us to make this an even bigger part of the community than it already is.” Second, the incredible response by other businesses in the Yuma area to financially support the events last year is already well on the way to repeating that same success-much in part to the fact that many of the sponsors of the last two years are already back on board for 2013, including Holiday Inn, who has again signed on to be the official hotel of the 2013 Fisher Automotive El Toro Bowl, and Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club have renewed their partnerships as major sponsors. “There’s no way to put on an event of this magnitude without great support,” remarked AWC Athletic Director Jerry Smith. “That’s why it’s so exciting for us to have our sponsors continue to provide us with the financial support and positive spokesmanship in the community year after year.”

Bowl committee members also announced that the partnership between the Caballeros de Yuma, AWC & the MAA to put on the event has been extended from its original three-year contract (slated to end in December of this year) to the year 2015. The NJCAA has also extended the El Toro Bowl’s national bowl membership until 2015 as well. Bowl officials announced that the game itself will again culminate several days of events, including a pre-bowl banquet for the teams as well as several community-oriented events for both the teams and members of different portions of Yuma County.

The Fisher Automotive El Toro Bowl will be held on Saturday, December 7th, 2013 at Veterans Memorial Stadium (AWC’s home football stadium). Proceeds from the bowl game and its related events will benefit several areas, including scholarships at Arizona Western College, as well as allow the Caballeros de Yuma to continue to provide and attract events that positively impact the quality of life in the Yuma community.
