Ray Kroc Complex in Yuma to host expanded 4-team tournament this weekend
Yuma, Arizona – January 29, 2013 -- Arizona Western College is proud to announce that the Caballero Classic Baseball Tournament will kick off the home side of the 2013 AWC Baseball season beginning this Thursday afternoon, January 31st. The tournament has expanded to four teams for the first time since the 2010 season, and will feature teams from Arizona, California and Utah.
The Matadors will commence the tournament beginning at 3PM Thursday when they host the Gladiators of Pacifica University (from Covina, California) in a doubleheader at Desert Sun Stadium-the main baseball field at the Ray Kroc Complex. The Gladiators will then commence Friday’s action at noon with a twin bill on Field 1 (the field on the northwest part of Ray Kroc Complex) against the Matadors’ ACCAC rival from Phoenix, the Gateway Geckos (last year’s Region I Division II Finalists), while the Matadors host the Golden Eagles of Utah State University-Eastern (formerly the College of Eastern Utah) in a doubleheader at Desert Sun Stadium starting at 3PM Friday. On Saturday, the Matadors will take the day off to shift the spotlight to the Geckos and Golden Eagles as Gateway and USU-Eastern will face off in an 11AM doubleheader at Desert Sun Stadium.
There is free admission to all eight games of the tournament, and the concession stand will be open with refreshments on the main concourse at Desert Sun Stadium Thursday and Friday. The Ray Kroc Complex is located on Avenue A one mile south of 32nd Street in Yuma. A full schedule of the tournament is attached along with the 2013 AWC Baseball schedule.
