MATSN to provide expanded pregame coverage on radio, TV, internet audio and video streams
Yuma, Arizona – November 30, 2012 – Arizona Western College, the Caballeros de Yuma and the Matador Athletic Association are proud to announce that the 2012 El Toro Bowl-presented by Alexander Automotive Group-will be broadcast exclusively on the Matador Sports Network. thus concluding its football coverage for the 2012 season. MATSN will be the only live broadcast of the game, which will pit the 12th-ranked Arizona Western College Matadors against the 6th-ranked Nassau Community College Lions at 1PM this Saturday, December 1st, at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Yuma. It will be the second straight year that MATSN has been the home of the bowl game, and the second year that the broadcasts will be available to view and/or listen to in four different ways.
MATSN has broadcast extensive coverage of AWC Matador Football and Matador Men’s and Women’s Basketball for more than a decade. For the past eight years during the fall, MATSN has broadcast AWC Football’s full schedule on radio and internet audio, and their entire home schedule on television; along with a selected Matador Soccer and Volleyball match. MATSN has already begun its eighth consecutive year of coverage of all 22 men’s-women’s basketball conference doubleheaders for AWC on radio and internet audio, and will commence with much of their 11-date home doubleheader schedule on TV on January 2nd. The basketball broadcast schedule will also be followed for the fifth straight year this coming spring with a selected Matador Baseball and Matador Softball doubleheader to be determined at a later date. This is also the second year that MATSN has provided Matador fans with AWC TV’s signal on the internet via the UStream app on IPhone, IPad, IPod, Android and Windows phone, as well as on the Matador Sports Network page on the AWC Athletics website.
Saturday’s broadcast coverage will be expanded from the normal football format, with a one-hour El Toro Bowl Pregame Show on radio and internet audio, and a 30-minute pregame show on television and the video stream. Saturday’s game will pit two teams that spent most of the 2012 season entrenched in the NJCAA Top 10. Both teams have plenty to play for, since Nassau will try to better their current 9-1 overall record with a win, which would give them their second double-digit-win season in the last three years (they finished 11-0 in 2010). Meanwhile, AWC will shoot for their first bowl victory in the Tom Minnick Era Saturday, and a victory would also give them 38 wins over the last four seasons combined, which would set a new high-water mark for the program in that regard.
The 2012 El Toro Bowl-presented by Alexander Automotive Group-will be broadcast live on radio by Yuma’s news/talk powerhouse SportsRadio 560 KBLU, which is in the midst of its fourteenth year broadcasting AWC Athletics. Meanwhile, the AWC Athletics website (www.azwestern.edu/athletics) and KBLU’s internet site, www.kbluam.com will simulcast the bowl broadcast. The radio/internet audio broadcast will begin Saturday at noon (Arizona time) with the El Toro Bowl Pre-Game Show, with the familiar Matador Sports Network voices of play-by-play man Jim Howell-the ‘Voice of the El Toro Bowl’ and color commentator (and AWC Women’s Head Basketball Coach) Patrick Cunningham providing the commentary. AWC TV will commence its expanded coverage of the bowl game at 12:30PM Saturday afternoon, with AWC TV’s signal video-streamed via UStream on two different websites: the Matador Sports Network page on the AWC Athletics website (http://www.azwestern.edu/student_services/athletics/Sports_Network.html), and for the first time, on the official El Toro Bowl website (www.eltorobowl.com). It can also be viewed live on mobile devices via the Ustream app, which is available on IPhone, IPad, Android, and Windows Phone (it can also be seen on Google TV and Boxee set-top boxes) by searching “AWC TV”.
