Radio/internet to broadcast Tuesday’s game live; TV to show tape-delayed rebroadcast Wednesday night

Yuma, Arizona – October 9, 2012 -- Arizona Western College is proud to announce that Tuesday night’s AWC Soccer match against Phoenix College will be broadcast by the Matador Sports Network. It will be the fifth straight year that MATSN will broadcast a Matador Soccer match. The game will be broadcast live on the radio and internet legs of MATSN Tuesday and will be broadcast on a tape-delayed basis on television the next night (Wednesday, October 10th).

The broadcast continues to signal the dedication by the Matador Sports Network, Matador Athletics, AWC TV Services and Arizona Western College to respond to the inquiries by the public to expand broadcast coverage of Matador Athletics. MATSN has broadcast extensive coverage of Matador Football and Matador Men’s and Women’s Basketball for more than a decade. For the past seven years, MATSN has broadcast AWC Football’s full schedule on radio and internet audio, and their entire home schedule on television. They’ve also broadcast all 22 men’s-women’s basketball conference doubleheaders on radio and internet audio, and much of their 11-date home doubleheader schedule on TV. Once again this year, MATSN continues its expanded scope of broadcasts to include the other four sports on the AWC campus. Following tonight’s soccer broadcast, MATSN will feature AWC Volleyball on Wednesday night, October 24th as they host Eastern Arizona College in a rematch of last year’s Region I Finals. Plus, following the coverage of Matador Men’s and Women’s Basketball this winter, MATSN’s coverage will extend this spring to selected Matador Baseball and Matador Softball games that will be determined at a later date. This is also the second year that MATSN has provided Matador fans with AWC TV’s signal on the internet via the UStream app on IPhone, IPad, IPod, Android and Windows phone, as well as on the Matador Sports Network page on the AWC Athletics website.

Tonight’s broadcast is also important for the 12th-ranked Matadors, who-after clinching a Region I Playoff berth this past weekend-will now work toward clinching a first-round bye. That quest begins with tonight’s match against Phoenix College, who is also fighting for playoff positioning. The match will be broadcast live on radio by Yuma’s news/talk powerhouse SportsRadio 560 KBLU, who begins its fourteenth year broadcasting AWC Athletics. Meanwhile, the AWC Athletics website ( and KBLU’s internet site, will simulcast the soccer broadcast as well as all of the Matadors’ game broadcasts for the 2012-13 athletic season. The broadcast will begin at 5:30PM with the Matador Soccer Pre-Game Show, and kickoff is scheduled for 6PM on radio/internet. Meanwhile, AWC TV continues its excellent coverage of Matador Athletics on Time-Warner Cable Channel 74 as it will shoot the game tonight and will broadcast the game on a time-delayed basis on Wednesday night, October 10th at 7:30PM as well other repeat showings throughout the next week (there will be no video stream available of the match, however). Jim Howell-the ‘Voice of the Matadors’-will provide the play-by-play for the broadcast.
