Miss Yuma County Ready to Hit the Books at AWC

Yuma, AZ (August 13, 2014)- As the summer winds down, the 2014 Miss Yuma County sets her sights on yet another challenge: freshman year at Arizona Western College. Hailey Bernardo was crowned Miss Yuma County almost a year ago and the endeavors she has made over the past nine months have prepared her for the next experience. Bernardo enrolled in fall classes last week at AWC after months of community event presentations and Miss Yuma County commitments.

“I’m glad I graduated from Gila Ridge High School early (in December) so I had time to meet and participate in the various community events and now have time for a full schedule of classes in the fall,” Hailey Bernardo commented on her upcoming semester at AWC.

Bernardo is planning to earn an AAS in Media Arts from AWC and transfer to Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite’s School of Journalism. While she attends AWC she hopes to participate in the Student Government Association (SGA) and various other clubs on campus. She is also entertaining the possibility of running for a leadership role in the SGA in the fall 2015.

As the winner of Miss Yuma County, Bernardo received a $6,000 scholarship and a one year academic scholarship consisting of 12 credit hours per semester for 2 semesters from Arizona Western College.
