NFCA Announces Division 1 All-Americans
Jun. 4th, 2014
YUMA, AZ The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced their 2014 NJCAA Division 1 All-American teams that include four Lady Matadors and two fellow ACCAC players.
The Lady Matadors representatives on the First Team were catcher April Marquez and infielder Robyn Alvara. Pima centerfielder Alexis Dotson joined April and Robyn as a NFCA 1st Team All-American.
Among representatives on the second team, were fellow Lady Matador pitcher Ashlee Rex and outfielder Kaila Crandall from Eastern Arizona College. Infielder Bethany Olea was the lone representative from AWC or the ACCAC on the 3rd Team All-American list.
To have four NFCA All-Americans after already having two NJCAA All-Americans means a lot to this program and I am extremely proud of them, said AWC Athletic Director Jerry Smith. To be an All-American is a prestigious honor and to have a total of six All-Americans on two different lists does nothing but confirm even more how great of a year 2014 really was for the Lady Matadors.
The Lady Matadors saw their season come to a close in the NJCAA National Softball Tournament with a pair of losses to Central Florida and Southern Union State in mid-May. AWC ended their season ranked second in the nation with an overall record of 49-9.
