AWC NEWS Headlines & ANNOUNCEMENTS

Brandon Anderson Signs With Incarnate Word
Derek Diesner
Apr. 25th, 2014

YUMA, AZ – Arizona Western College head baseball coach Drew Keehn announced Friday that right-handed starting pitcher Brandon Anderson has signed his letter of intent to play baseball next season at the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas.

Anderson leads the AWC staff with an ERA of 2.83 and currently sports a 5-5 record with seven complete games in 11 appearances this season.

“Brandon was looking for a good fit both from a baseball and financial perspective,” said AWC head coach Drew Keehn. “Incarnate Word got a great young man that can help them win while they transition into a Division I schedule.  I am proud of what Brandon has been able to accomplish here at AWC and wish the best for him in the future.”

The other two Matadors, who have signed early so far, have been fellow sophomore pitcher Jose Rosales-Rodarte with Dixie State University in St. George, Utah and pitcher/infielder Travis Garcia-Perreria who signed on with Grand Canyon University located in Phoenix.

This season Incarnate Word is currently 13-24 overall and 5-7 in Southland Conference play. Arizona Western is currently 31-22 overall and 16-20 in ACCAC play while fighting for a postseason berth. This weekend, the Matadors need to sweep Scottsdale and get some help from 10th ranked Central Arizona. If the Vaqueros sweep Cochise and AWC sweeps Scottsdale, then the Matadors claim the fourth and final playoff spot, however if Cochise wins one of the two games, then the Matadors will be eliminated from postseason contention.

Again, the Matador baseball team finishes off the regular season portion of their schedule with a home doubleheader Saturday against the Scottsdale Fighting Artichokes at Kammann Field. Brandon Anderson and the rest of the sophomore class will be honored in a pre-game ceremony leading up to the first pitch at 12 noon; and as always, admission is FREE.
