AWC NEWS Headlines & ANNOUNCEMENTS

April Student-Athlete: Brandon Anderson
Derek Diesner
Apr. 1st, 2014

YUMA, AZ – Head baseball coach Drew Keehn and his staff, are proud to recognize pitcher Brandon Anderson as the April Student-Athlete of the Month from the Matador baseball team here at Arizona Western College.  Anderson was chosen for this award because of his excellence both in the classroom and on the field.

“Brandon has been the most consistent player on this team with his GPA and play on the field each semester,” said head coach Drew Keehn. “Brandon isn’t just eligible to play, he takes his course work seriously because he wants to excel in life and you love to see that in a young man like Brandon. He’s just a consistent guy all around and that’s the type of guys we like to have around here.”

Anderson hails from Cheyenne, Wyoming and is in his second season with the Matadors this year. While Brandon is undeclared on where he will continue his education next school year, he does know that in the future he would like to be an elementary school teacher.

Even though Anderson has a tough decision on where to attend school next year, his decision to come to AWC was much easier.

“My mom and I were really impressed with Coach Keehn,” said Anderson. “The way he carried himself compared to other coaches and schools I visited set him apart.”

Knowing his mom was also impressed by Coach Keehn meant a lot to Brandon.

“Both my mom and dad along with my grandparents are who I admire the most,” said Anderson. Nothing ever came easy for them and that’s where I learned to work hard. So if they see someone or something they like, it goes a long way with me.”

Brandon Anderson’s days are numbered here at AWC, but in his two seasons he has had a lot of great memories!

“On the field, whenever I get a complete game it’s amazing,” said Anderson. “Wins are hard to come by and I love being able to go the whole way because I always to have the ball in my hand! Off the field, spending my 20th birthday with my teammate Travis Garcia-Perreira in Las Vegas meant a lot to me and it’s a memory I will always have. My teammates are like my family and I will miss these guys following this season.”

For the month of May, we will check in with AWC Cheer and Dance Coach Tiffany Minnick to see who her two selections are for co-student-athletes of the month. The chosen athletes will be announced on Thursday May 1st online on the AWC Matadors athletics homepage.
