Lady Matadors Welcome Four Local Players Into The Family
Derek Diesner
Mar. 17th, 2014

YUMA, AZ – AWC head women’s soccer coach Kenny Dale and his staff announced today that four local Yuma players have signed on to play with the Lady Matadors for the 2014 season.

“We are very excited to have signed so many high quality local area players,” said head coach Kenny Dale. “I believe these young women will have a strong presence in our team and make a positive impact on the league.”

The four players signed are Sheridan Smith and Asia Chavez from Gila Ridge High School, Andi Bedoya from Cibola High School and Abby Rosales from Kofa High School.

Smith played in 11 games this past season for the Lady Hawks and tallied 63 points with 25 goals and 13 assists while helping lead Gila Ridge to a 9-2-1 mark overall with a spotless 3-0-1 league record. Smith’s teammate Asia Chavez played in just nine games for Gila Ridge as a Forward and Midfielder while scoring six goals to go with six assists and 18 points.

Andi Bedoya from Cibola High School appeared in ten games for the Raiders and scored 17 goals with five assists. Even though Cibola finished the year at 5-5-1, Bedoya fared well with 39 points on the season from the midfield position.

Finally, Abby Rosales from Kofa High School rounds out the signings for Kenny Dale’s crew. Rosales is listed as a midfielder and appeared in 12 games with the Kings while scoring 23 goals to go along with 21 assists and 67 points on the year.

“When you look at the level of play in the ACCAC, we definitely need to be ready to compete,” said head coach Kenny Dale. “I think there are three or four teams who could win it, and I feel that this season we will be in that group.”

The Lady Matadors will hold a press conference in the athletics building on campus this Wednesday March 19th at 3pm. AWC will kick-off their 2014 campaign in late August. Stay tuned to Matador Athletics for more news as it becomes available for game times and dates.
