Yavapai Drops Softball For 2014 Season
Feb. 13th, 2014
YUMA, AZ – The Arizona Western College Lady Matadors recently found out that Yavapai College has dropped their Softball program for the 2014 season with hopes to bring it back in 2015.
According to the school’s website, the program has been suspended for the season due to lack of interest.
At this point in time the Lady Matadors have no other games in place to take over the open dates left by Yavapai. Those dates are, Tuesday February 18th and Friday April 4th.
“It’s extremely disappointing to hear this news,” said AWC Athletic Director Jerry Smith. “Yavapai has been one of the top softball teams year in and year out in the ACCAC. Yavapai being out of the conference puts us in a bind, knowing that we lose in essence four games.”
The Lady Mats will next be in action this Saturday for day three of their six day homestand. On Saturday AWC will host fellow ACCAC member, the Scottsdale Fighting Artichokes. First pitch is scheduled for 12 noon and as always, admission is FREE! With February 18th’s game against Yavapai being canceled, the next game following the Scottsdale meeting will be a week from this Saturday when the Lady Matadors host Mesa on Saturday February 22nd.
