November Men’s Soccer Student-Athlete: Julio Cesar Castillo Davila
Oct. 31st, 2013
YUMA, AZ – Head men’s soccer coach Kenny Dale and his staff, are proud to recognize midfielder Julio Cesar Castillo Davila as the November Student-Athlete of the month for the men’s soccer team. Castillo Davila was chosen for this award because of his excellence both in the classroom and on the soccer field.
Julio Castillo is currently in his sophomore season with the Matadors and has really helped his team in many ways both on and off the field. Currently, Castillo has four goals and five assists on the season; which are tied for third best on the team.
Castillo Davila is getting set to complete his second season here at AWC with hopes and dreams of continuing his soccer career at the next level.
“After AWC, I hope to play for a division one soccer team and then become a professional soccer play,” said Castillo Davila.
Currently Julio Castillo is majoring in Sports Psychology at Arizona Western.
“My scholarship here to AWC provided me a great opportunity to learn more and help me achieve my future goals in life,” said Castillo Davila.
As many young athletes do, Julio has an idol in the soccer world and that is Mesut Ozil. “He is such a great player and an even better person and that is what I strive to become each day,” said Castillo Davila.
With the season dwindling down, the Matadors are faced with a lot of tough tasks ahead. Castillo Davila said that he believes a true student/athlete needs to have discipline and a strong mentality to be successful at this level and that is exactly what Arizona Western will need from each of its players as crunch time hits.
For the month of December, we will check in with head football coach Tom Minnick to see who his student-athlete of the month is. The chosen athlete will be announced on December 2nd on the AWC Matadors athletics homepage.
