AWC NEWS Headlines & ANNOUNCEMENTS

October Student-Athlete: Taylor Price
Derek Diesner
Oct. 1st, 2013

YUMA, ARIZONA – Sophomore volleyball player Taylor Price was thrilled when she was given the opportunity to continue her education following high school, while also being given the chance to play her favorite sport of volleyball at the next level.

“Receiving a scholarship at AWC meant that I got to play Volleyball and make things a little easier on my family,” said Price.

Price has been a dynamic force for the Lady Matadors both on and off the court. She currently sports a 4.0 GPA and is near the top in a lot of statistical categories on the team. Price currently ranks fourth in kills on the team behind Abbie Noland, Amber Graham and Maria del mar Guzman Franco.

“Taylor’s leadership and court awareness are very valuable assets to our team.  These on court qualities are very closely tied to her outstanding work in the classroom.  She is a great example of accepting the privilege and responsibility of being a student athlete in the Matador Volleyball Family,” said AWC Volleyball head coach Jason Smith.

Price’s memories are just beginning here at AWC with what’s been a magical second season for the Lady Matadors, but when asked what moment has stood out the most, she responded with,

“Winning the Region Championship last season, well that and spending time with my team.”

Price enjoys her time with her teammates so much, that she listed it as a hobby, but she also enjoys her family time because of what it’s brought her in life.

“I admire my mom a lot for everything she has done for me, and always pushing me to do my best on and off the court.”

Price plans on continuing her education following her time here at AWC at a school hopefully located in California. Her goal is to do something in the medical field.

Each month we will continue selecting a certain individual while school is in session from each athletic program here Arizona Western College to be honored as our Student-Athlete of the Month.

Price said, “A true student-athlete to me is someone who has great leadership skills both on and off the court.”

She couldn’t be more correct in that statement. Each month we will leave the voting up to the coaches of the selected team, but leadership, grades, as well as their play on the court are all factors on who gets this distinct recognition.

For the month of November, we will check in with head women’s and men’s soccer coach Kenny Dale to see who his student-athletes of the month are. The chosen athletes will be announced on November 1st on the AWC Matadors athletics homepage.
