Kinard Wins Defensive Player of the Week
Sep. 10th, 2013
YUMA, AZ - The third week of play in the Western States Football League saw Mesa continuing its winning ways beating Pima 41-20. Scottsdale handed Snow its first league defeat since 2011 by a score of 40-19. Arizona Western got on the winning track by downing Eastern Arizona 42-15. And New Mexico Military got by Phoenix 21-13. Glendale had a bye.
Arizona Western’s defense held Eastern Arizona to 15 points on Saturday due in large part to freshman linebacker Antonio Kinard’s outstanding performance. Kinard, 6’3”, 225 pounds from Winnsboro, S. C., recorded 15 total tackles including five solo and 10 assists. He had 1.5 tackles for loss and forced a fumble.
Kinard is the first player from AWC to win Player of the Week honors this season.
Kinard and his teammates are hard at work preparing for this week's home game against Phoenix College. Tickets still remain for Saturday night's contest at "The Vet," which is scheduled to begin at 7pm.
For those fans unable to attend the game, it will be live on the radio and internet on 560 KBLU-AM and will also air live on cable channel 74 AWC-TV.
