2nd Annual Black History Month Symposium Held at AWC Main Campus February 28
Yuma, AZ (February 21, 2013) --- February is Black History Month, and the general public is invited to the 2nd Annual Black History Month Symposium to celebrate the theme, Learn, Remember, Serve, on Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the AC Building, Room 282 on AWC’s main campus, 2020 South Avenue 8E in Yuma.
This will be an informative and moving event that will present key topics and issues that have paved the way for today’s society which will encourage attendees to remember the legacies that iconic men and women have left behind to inspire them to make a difference in their own community by serving their brothers and sisters.
Members of the community are welcome to attend this free event that will feature faculty presentations as well as student readings and performances. The Keynote Address will be delivered by Henry H. Averhart, Jr., professor of Speech Communications at AWC, who says, “The Sankofa Bird of African mythology looks backward with the egg of the future in her beak…constantly checking as she moves forever forward. Each year, particularly during BHM, we endeavor to promote thoughtful consideration of the past and future by encouraging reflection generated by works of and by people of African descent!”
