AWC to Participate in Humanity Play-a-Thon of Music Charity Benefit
Organizers Asking for Donations

Yuma, AZ (January 24, 2013) --- AWC students are among area young musicians who are raising funds to benefit a local charity in the 2012 Habitat 4 Humanity Play-a-Thon of Music to be held on Saturday, January 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Yuma Palms Mall.

Students from the entire Yuma community will be performing, including two AWC music groups: The AWC String Ensemble, the AWC Chamber Singers and the AWC Youth Choir.

The Yuma County Music Educators Association started this tradition four years ago to help the Haiti earthquake victims, and the students were so moved by the experience that organizers decided to make it a yearly event to support local non-profit organizations. During the last three years, they have held a play-a-thon at Yuma Palms Mall in front of Harkins Theatre to benefit the Salvation Army, The Yuma Community Food Bank, and the Humane Society of Yuma. This year, they have chosen to help the Yuma Habitat for Humanity.

In order to help Habitat, organizers are asking attendees to bring donations of money, household items and aluminum cans. Thrivent Financial will match monetary funds up to $500; Habitat ReStore will have a large truck to collect household item donations; and Habitat will recycle the cans.

For more information, please contact Margaret Fenske, AWC Associate Professor of Music, at margaret.fenske@azwestern.edu, (928) 261-6444.
