Dec. 11th, 2012

Matador coaches, players to offer first-ever two-day, all-day event over Christmas holiday break

Yuma, Arizona – December 11, 2012 -- Arizona Western College is proud to announce that the first-ever Matador Holiday Basketball Camp will be held on Monday & Tuesday, December 17th & 18th. The camp will be held at 'The House'-AWC's gymnasium (2020 South Avenue 8E in Yuma) from 7AM to 5PM each day. The camp will be run by AWC Men's Head Basketball Coach Charles Harral, men’s assistant coaches Kyle Isaacs & Dominique Richardson, women’s assistant coach Regina Schlichter, as well as current Matador Basketball players. Campers will each receive a free AWC camp T-shirt.

The camp is open to all boys and girls in kindergarten through 8th grade. Campers will be instructed on the various fundamentals of basketball, including dribbling, shooting and defense. There will be fundamental teaching stations as well as shooting games and a contest that will be held throughout the 2-day camp. Lunch will be provided each day, and there will be activities outside of the court, including tours of the AWC campus with coaches and players, and visits to the new game room in the AWC Campus Life Department in the 3C. There will also be several guest speakers at the camp to give their expertise on the game of basketball.

The cost for each camper is just $60, and parents can register campers in one of two ways: 1) by contacting Laura Rios between now and 5PM Thursday, December 12 either by phone ((928) 344-7700) or e-mail (laura.rios@azwestern.edu); or by arriving at ‘The House’ prior to the start of the camp Monday morning, December 17th, between 6:30AM and 7AM. A camp flyer is available for download on the men's & women’s basketball pages of the AWC Athletics website (www.azwestern.edu/athletics). Camp registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Those needing more information or who have questions about the camp can contact AWC Men’s Head Basketball Coach Charles Harral either by phone ((928) 344-7643) or by e-mail (charles.harral@azwestern.edu).
