AWC League of Artists Presents Empty Bowls Charity Dinner January 11th
Yuma, Arizona (December 4, 2012) – Many people in Yuma struggle with hunger, but you can help. The AWC League of Artists presents the Empty Bowls Charity Dinner on Friday, January 11th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Yuma Art Center, 254 South Main Street.
A donation of $12 gets you a handmade ceramic bowl, a serving of soup, bread and a drink. Or you may bring 10 canned goods and $2. Proceeds will go to Crossroads Mission, and canned goods will go to the food bank.
Bethany Koscinski, President of League of Artists at AWC, says the bowls are being donated by various local artists in the community, including college and high school teachers and students and professional potters. Likewise, a variety of soups, breads and drinks are being donated by locally-owned restaurants.
“This is really a community project,” she says. “I purposely have not asked big corporations for donations because I wanted it to be about the community, from the community and for the community.”
Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger and was created by the Imagine Render Group. In exchange for a cash donation, guests partake of a simple meal and are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. The money raised is given to organizations that help feed people in need. For more information about the movement, visit emptybowls.net
