Arizona Western College Creates Karate Club For Students
New club raising funds for International Tournament in 2013.
Yuma, Arizona (October 4, 2012) – The newly formed AWC Karate Club is made up of a group of AWC students who have been studying at AWC under Kioshi Francisco Aguilar, 7th Degree Black Belt. The purpose(s) of the club is to familiarize students with additional development and training in the art of karate and with the competitive side of the art. This includes attending karate camps with the organization throughout the United States, to create the possibility of travel to Okinawa, Japan to visit and train with Japanese students of the art, and exposure to local, national and international karate tournaments.
Club members are karate students who have been training in techniques, protocol, and rules required for competition. This diverse group of students is focusing on kata (forms), kobudo (weapons), and kumite (sparring) to prepare for an upcoming tournament in Argentina in 2013. The club is planning to send ten of its members to compete in the tournament sponsored by the Okinawa Shorin Ryu Matsumura Kenshin Kan Karate Do and Kobudo Federation from Okinawa, Japan.
The tournament is an international event open to all Okinawan Karate styles. Attending members of the AWC Karate Club will be representing Sensei Aguilar’s Dojo of Okinawa Shorin Ryu Matsumura Kenshin Kan Karate and Kobudo based out of Arizona Western College.
To make the trip to Argentina possible for ten club members, the club will be holding fundraisers through this fall semester and the coming spring semester. The club’s first fundraiser will be a bake sale on Tuesday, October 9th and Wednesday, October 10th, in the LR Building Atrium, from 9am to 1pm. Come support this great group of students.
