Yuma County Republican Women Club Endows 3rd Scholarship with the Arizona Western College Foundation
Yuma, AZ (June 27, 2012) — On March 28, 2012, the Yuma County Republican Women Club endowed its 3rd scholarship with the Arizona Western College Foundation, in honor of Frank and Pat Cooper.
The $10,000 Frank and Pat Cooper Endowed Scholarship will fund an annual award of $500 to an AWC student with a minimum GPA of 3.2, who is a registered Republican, or if under the age of 18, who must write an essay entitled “Why I Believe in the Republican Party.“ The applicant must also be an Education, Political Science, or Nursing major.
Students can apply for the scholarship at the AWC Foundation after the 2013-14 academic year begins in January 2013.
Denise Sweet-McGregor, Executive Director of the Foundation, received the check from the YCRW club at its regular monthly meeting at the Putter Inn restaurant in March. This is her last week as Director, as she is considering an out-of-state position within the Credit Union industry. “I am grateful for the many opportunities afforded me in the past year that allowed the foundation to grow in both assets and in scholarships and program support,” she says.
Other YCRW club scholarships available through the AWC Foundation are the Bea Strong and the Nikki Ferguson scholarships. The three YCRW endowments total $32,000, which were made possible by the club’s fundraising efforts, says club President Ema Lea Shoop.
